The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the Britain's small music venues.

He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album the album was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – about 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and fans.

"The concept that funds from shows in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Fender is not the first artist to contribute his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

In the band earned the trophy in 1996 for their record the album, frontman the singer declared that the band would give their prize money to the charity the charity.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across several charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite told the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their winnings to the youth organization that supported their act, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners M People donated their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"The victory was ample," remarked singer the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

One venue in the city and the other in that location were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
